Common questions
A barcode won't scan — why?
Three common causes, in order of likelihood:
- The product isn't in the database yet. Coverage for NZ and Australian supermarket own-brands is thinner than for international brands. When a product isn't found, use the AI lookup with the product name — you'll get an estimate with a confidence label.
- Lighting or glare. Move to brighter light, tilt glossy packaging away from the light source, and hold the camera 8–15cm from the barcode.
- Browser support. If you're using Mise. in a web browser, some browsers don't support camera-based scanning. You can always type the barcode number in manually.
How accurate is the AI ingredient lookup?
It's an estimate, and it says so. Every AI result carries a confidence label — high, medium, or low. Verified database entries (marked "USDA") are lab-analyzed values; AI estimates are best-effort and most reliable for common foods. For anything critical, prefer entries with the USDA or branded-label tag.
How do servings and the pantry work?
When you cook a recipe, tell Mise. how many servings the pot makes. The batch goes into your pantry with that many servings. Each time you eat one, tap "Eat a serving" — it logs the calories and macros for one serving and counts the batch down. When the batch hits zero, it clears from the pantry.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are handled by the App Store, not by us:
- Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Mise. → Cancel
Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the paid period. Your data stays on your device either way.
Can I export my data?
Yes — Settings → Export CSV gives you your full log as a spreadsheet-ready file. Your data is yours.
I lost my data after deleting the app
Mise. stores everything on your device, and deleting the app deletes its data — we have no server copy to restore from. This is a deliberate privacy trade-off. If you're switching phones, export a CSV first.
Feature requests
Genuinely wanted — email [email protected] with the subject "Feature". The pantry itself started as a request.
